Are we being ripped off by the bottled water industry?

Do Something! has launched a search to find Australia's most
expensive bottled water. Our spot check of bottled water prices found
one brand that was 10 times more expensive than petrol!
Australians
spend more than half a billion dollars on bottled water when high
quality drinking water is available from our taps for next to nothing.
Do
Something! informally canvassed a range of retailers to check the price
of bottled water. The most expensive we found was 'Voss' water at
$10.95 for 800mL in the David Jones food hall. Hotels and restaurants
charge even more.
The price contrast with tap water is stark. In
Sydney you can get 1,000 litres of tap water for $2.01. You can pay
$2.50 for a 600mL bottle of water. When that's empty, for the same
$2.50 you could refill that bottle with tap water once a day for five
and a half years.
Do Somthing! founder Jon Dee can't help but think of the old joke: "What's Evian spelt backwards?"
